Our Swimming Babies programme is a parent-led experience designed to build water confidence, create bonding moments, and introduce essential water safety skills during your child’s most formative years. With small, intimate classes of just 3–4 babies, expert AUSTSWIM-certified instructors, and 32°C heated pools, every session is warm, safe, and built for both of you.

Why Baby Swimming Lessons Matter for Your Child

Bonding Time Like No Other

There’s nothing quite like the special connection formed in the water with your baby. These are memory-making moments you’ll treasure, whilst your baby develops water confidence and early safety skills that will serve them for life.

Early Water Safety Skills

Australia’s beaches and pools are part of our culture. Starting water familiarisation early means your baby grows comfortable in water — a crucial foundation for water safety throughout their life.

Support Brain Development

Research shows water-based activities support cognitive development, motor skill development, and can help establish healthy sleep patterns in infants.

Build Confidence That Lasts

Water confidence at an early age translates to confidence in other areas. Children who start early often become more adventurous and resilient learners.

Active, Healthy Foundation

Swimming is low-impact exercise perfect for young bodies. It builds strength, coordination, and establishes a love of movement and active play from the very beginning.

What Baby Swimming Looks Like at Jump!

You’re In the Water Together

Our baby classes are parent-led. You’ll be in the water with your baby, guided by our expert instructors. It’s not about forcing your child to swim — it’s about exploring water together at a pace that feels right for both of you.

Fun, Game-Based Activities

Expect singing, splashing, floating adventures, and water play. Our instructors make lessons enjoyable for both baby and parent, creating positive associations with water that last a lifetime.

Small, Intimate Classes

With only 3–4 babies per class, your instructor knows your baby personally. Progress is personalised, not pressured. Every child’s individual comfort and development pace is respected.

Age-Appropriate Progression

From newborn exploration to independent floating, our programme evolves as your baby develops. Progression is natural and happens when your baby is genuinely ready — never forced.

Our Swimming Babies Programme Levels

The Swimming Babies programme is divided into four levels, each matched to your baby’s developmental stage. Children progress through these levels at their own pace — you’ll always know exactly where your child is and what they’re working towards.

Duckling (3–6 months)

First introduction to water for your newborn or young baby. Focus on comfort, trust-building, and gentle water exploration.

Key skills: water environment comfort, trust in parent and instructor, early water safety awareness, introduction to water sounds and sensations.

Classes involve gentle water play, singing, parent-guided floating, and bonding time. Class size: 3–4 babies.

Duck (6–12 months)

Building on water comfort, this level introduces early floating and water confidence as your baby develops mobility.

Key skills: increased water confidence, early floating with parent support, parent-guided kicking and water movement, water safety introduction.

Classes involve floating practice, water songs, supported movement, and play-based learning. Class size: 3–4 babies.

Goldfish (12–24 months)

Toddler stage! This level transitions towards more independence whilst maintaining parent participation, introducing simple techniques.

Key skills: increased independence, floating on back and front with support, introduction to kicking, growing water confidence, early water safety rules.

Classes involve supported floating, kicking with kickboards, water games, and exploration. Class size: 3–4 toddlers.

Tadpole (2–4 years)

Final stage of the baby programme. Children develop strong water confidence and begin to move independently with support — the gateway to Independent Swimmers.

Key skills: strong water confidence, unassisted floating, early kicking with proper technique, water safety solidifying, beginning independent movement.

Classes involve guided floating, kicking challenges, simple games, and preparation for independent swimming. Class size: 3–4 young toddlers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Babies can start at 3 months old in our Duckling level. At this age, your baby’s immune system has developed enough for safe water exposure. We use 32°C heated water, which is warm and comfortable for young babies. Always consult your GP if you have specific health concerns.
Yes. Medical research supports water exposure from 3 months onwards. Our instructors are trained in infant water safety, and classes are small and closely supervised. Our pools are purpose-built for young children and maintained to the highest hygiene standards.
Most babies absolutely do. After an initial adjustment period (1–2 weeks is completely normal), babies show genuine excitement about water time. The combination of parent bonding, warm water, and playful activities makes it an experience they look forward to.
A nappy or properly fitted swim nappy is essential, plus appropriate swimwear. Older toddlers can wear regular swimwear. We have change facilities at every centre for drying off and getting dressed afterwards.
Completely normal. Most babies cry in their first lesson or two — it’s a new environment, new sounds, new sensations. By week 3–4, most babies settle and begin enjoying it. Our instructors are very experienced with this transition and will guide you through it.
Classes are typically 30 minutes for Duckling and Duck levels, and 30–40 minutes for Goldfish and Tadpole. This length is ideal for young children’s attention spans and prevents overtiring.
We recommend weekly lessons for consistent progression. Consistency is the single most important factor — children who attend regularly every week progress significantly faster than those who attend sporadically.
A swim nappy, change of clothes for your baby, towels, and your nappy bag essentials. We provide change facilities at every centre. No special equipment is needed — we supply all teaching aids.
Yes. Primary caregivers including grandparents and babysitters are welcome. We do ask that the same person attends regularly so your baby maintains comfort and consistency with their water environment.
You can take your baby into a pool from 3 months old in a structured swim programme. For our youngest babies, we maintain water at 32°C to ensure warmth and comfort throughout the session.
