Last year, Alaina Shivers put a 12-year career in architecture to the side in the search for more flexibility to spend time with her children, and she found just that with a new career as a swim teacher at JUMP! Swim School Port Kennedy.
“I wanted more flexibility so I could be available to my children. I have enjoyed swimming recreationally since I was a child and watching my children from the sidelines during their swimming lessons, I thought it would be something that I would enjoy doing,” said Alaina, who is mum to a 6 year old and a 3 year old.
Alaina qualified to become a swim teacher and commenced teaching lessons in September 2022 at the same swim school her children attend.
“The qualification process was fairly straightforward. I found it quite easy to get a practical placement and people were very helpful. It’s been really great so far. It is challenging in a very different way to my previous work. I enjoy seeing the children progress and trying to find ways to help them achieve.”
“I would recommend being a swimming teacher to anyone who has an enjoyment of swimming and interacting with children.”
